Girl, Mind Your Business.
“And that’s why you’re working at Marshalls now!”
Chiiillleee. If I had a dollar for every time I heard that during my retail stint, I would’ve made an extra $2–3K, minimum, between 2008 and 2013.
Dealing with funky attitudes, wild schedules, and toxic retail drama? Not fun… most of the time. But I learned so much about life from working at Marshalls.
My first job out of high school taught me patience, customer service, independent living skills, and, unfortunately, how to take inventory.
Now listen. Taking inventory is arguably the worst task in retail. Especially in a store like Marshalls. You’re literally walking the floor with a scanner, counting every item. Every. Single. One. GIRL.
As tedious as it is, inventory is crucial to understanding the health of the store.
How much do we have?
How much did we sell?
What got stolen?
What do we need more of?
You can’t answer any of that without taking inventory first.
What if we did the same thing with ourselves?
What if, every so often, we pulled out a metaphorical scanner and started checking in piece by piece?
How’s my savings account?
Am I surrounded by people who are draining me?
What have I given out lately, and how can I pour back into myself?
All questions that deserve honest answers.
But we only get those answers when we stop and take inventory.
“Bo, but what if I don’t know where to start?!”
Don’t worry, Sis, I got you.
Last month, we introduced the 7 Petals of Self-Care. This month, we’re doing a Flower Health Assessment.
For my email subscribers, I’ve uploaded a self-reflection questionnaire to help you take stock of where you are and what you need. Give yourself 20–30 quiet minutes to move through it slowly. Let it be your Mindful Moment.
Answer the questions. Reflect. Release.
This is your chance to really mind your business, in the truest sense of the term.
